Revising Masonic Ritual, Day 47 of 100: Second Degree Obligation
The Second Degree Obligation (pages 129-130 in my book of Emulation Ritual) is the shortest of the Obligations in Craft Masonry. You may recall that with the First Degree Obligation we split our initial learning of it over two days.
Because the Second Degree Obligation is short we are only spending today on it in this initial learning run through. We will be revisiting it again to learn, and again to revise, as part of this course; and once in the Chair you’ll have a month concentrating just on the Second Degree ceremony too.
The Obligation all have a similar format, especially in the start and end of the Obligations. If anything, I find it harder to learn differences between them! I found it useful to cross-reference between the two Obligations.
Work out which parts are the same (or similar, but remember the differences!) and use those as stepping-stones as you navigate through the rest of it. At the moment I do need a bit of a re-cap in the middle section when I’m learning it, but not worried as we are coming back to it again, so knowing the area of weakness means I’ve highlighted where I need to focus attention.
