A question that is often asked is… How long does it take to learn Masonic Ritual or How much time do I need to spend?
Realistically learning the Ritual usually takes seven or eight years of attending Lodge meetings, Lodge of Instruction and working through the Offices. But once it gets closer to getting into the Chair the intensity and frequency of the time actually spent with the blue book in hand increases.
It naturally varies with what you’ve learnt already, your learning abilities, and what stage you are in learning a piece. An ‘old hand’ could revise and be word perfect with the Second Degree Tracing Board in half the time a new Mason would take to be proficient at learning the First Degree Working Tools.
More when learning you will need to allocate a quiet place when learning, and you may want to split it up through-out the day. (For example when commuting to work in the morning, a session at lunchtime, then some more in the evening.)
When getting competent/word perfect can be done whilst driving, in shower, etc, so doesn’t take additional time out of your day.
Practice ceremonies with others and attending Lodges of Instruction. Visiting Lodges also counts as revision (if you pay attention & mouth along)!
