This website is really aimed at those that are already Masons, but if you are interested in joining the Masons please feel free to drop me an email ([email protected]) and ask any questions.

Traditionally new members were introduced to Freemasonry by family members, friend and colleagues. In fact, this does still happen and many Lodges have a succession of fathers and sons. My own Lodge has a father/son combination.

Nowadays members don’t always talk about being a Mason with their friends and colleagues – there are secrets in Masonry, but being a Mason isn’t a secret! This means that many people who would make good Freemasons and would get a lot out of joining don’t know anyone that they are aware of to make a direct introduction. It often happens that you don’t realise who in your social circle is already a Mason until you join, then you wonder why you weren’t asked sooner.

Because of this there are some great resources online, in particularly on the website for the United Grand Lodge of England, www.ugle.org.uk/becoming-a-mason. The cost of joining varies depending on where in the country your Lodge is based. There can be other costs such as meals after meetings and regalia, but these are rarely excessive and comparable to what others spend in pursuing a hobby.

Remember, Freemasonry in England isn’t a for profit organisation, and money raised goes to charities, whether a small charity supported by your Lodge, through to millions of pounds given in international emergency aid. In order to join my Lodge, Enborne Lodge 7906, you need to live with the Masonic Province of Berkshire (which doesn’t follow the actual outline of the county!), however, I’ll be more than happy to point you in the direction of a Lodge closer to you ([email protected]).
